Kristy Oshiro's New Virtual Taiko Classes!

4-Week Virtual Advanced Taiko Sticking Play-Along Class: Mondays starting on Feb 7, 2/21, 2/28, and 3/7, 7:30-8:30pm Pacific Time via Zoom. In this class you will be led through different drumming sticking drills at various speeds with minimal instruction. All you need to do is play along. Extensive taiko/percussion experience is highly recommended. Each week's lesson will be recorded and you will have access to the recordings for up to a week after the final lesson. $60 via Venmo, Paypal or mailed check. 4-Week Virtual Beginning Taiko Class: Mondays starting on Feb 7, 2/21, 2/28, and 3/7, 5:30-6:30pm Pacific Time via Zoom. No experience necessary, try something new! Each week's lesson will be recorded and you will have access to the recordings for up to a week after the final lesson. $60 Venmo, Paypal or mailed check. This class is designed to be taken multiple times until skill level and song knowledge progresses to where you can move up to the intermediate class. Virtual Queer Taiko Beginning Classes: Fridays from 7-8pm Pacific Time. This virtual class is the live broadcast of the in-person Queer Taiko beginning class. No experience necessary so come try it out! All LGBTQ+ individuals and allies ages 9 and up are welcome! Each meetup is unique and weekly attendance is encouraged. Professional instructor Kristy Oshiro has over 25 years of experience. The $20 class fee is sliding scale and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Full schedule and RSVP on Meetup. 

Virtual Queer Taiko Intermediate Classes: Fridays from 8-9pm Pacific Time. This virtual class is the live broadcast of the in-person Queer Taiko intermediate/ performers' class. This taiko class is for Queer Taiko performers and LGBTQ+ individuals and allies ages 9 and up with previous taiko experience. Each Meetup is unique and weekly attendance is encouraged. The $20 fee is sliding scale and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Full schedule and RSVP on Meetup. 

Here's what else you will need for virtual taiko:  A computer, tablet, or phone that can connect to the internet and has the free Zoom app installed. The bigger the screen the better. A stable internet connection Something to use for a taiko (drum). It can be as simple as a pillow on a table top, couch cushions, rolled up phone book/magazines, or a drum practice pad or a homemade plastic trash can drum made with a plastic trash can (or anything with a round opening) and cheap plastic tape. For the advanced class, a tight shime daiko or drum practice pad is highly recommended. Something to use for bachi (drumsticks). Can be as simple as similarly-sized kitchen utensils, or a bunch of sheets of paper rolled lengthwise into thin cylinders secured with tape, or 7/8" wooden dowel cut into 16" lengths and rounded edges with sandpaper. For the advanced class, tapered shime daiko bachi is recommended.
